Default I keep blowing a shock!

I have an 01, with 111k on it right now.. The suspension was stock until a few months back, I installed AP2 shocks with Tein springs.. The springs did lower the car more than I thought they would, and I eventually blew the drivers side front shock.

I replaced it, and blew it again.. Is there a reason it's always that shock? I'm not a total idiot, but I avoid everything I should avoid in the roadway including small children; and it still blows..

The last shock I got I believe had 43k on it also. Any idea why it may just be that one??

I would use new shocks and call it a day. You can never tell what you get with used shocks. :s Atleast, if the new one breaks you got warranty. Take it to a reputable shop and get ur suspension checked. Goodluck!

I agree with Psykotik..... Your best bet is to invest in a performance shock that can handle lowering springs and the harsh roads.

not sure why you keep blowing the shocks but they will continue to do so because you have oem shocks on different springs which are not designed for

quit cheapin out and get new ones so they'll last you longer. if you're smart about it, get some koni yellow's so that you have a shock made for lowered cars

Hi Mike, is the shock leaking? It did have around that 42K of highway use. Do you drive the car hard? Do you daily drive it? Do you hit a lot of pot holes? Maybe there is something wrong with that specific spring, but it will be hard to tell.
Maybe a set of coilovers should help, or koni yellows with your springs.

Aftermarket spring with OEM shock will not last to long. That combo will contribute to blowing the shock.
You should have learned from the first incident.

Lowering springs on the stock shocks reduce suspension travel without increasing spring rate much. If you hit bumps and bottom out the shock, you will kill it.

I don't really agree that the slightly higher rates of a lowering spring will put demands on the shock alone to kill it. So its either you're bottoming out or have bad luck buying used stuff.
