I wanted to put the 05 radio on my 00 model and was wondering if that was compatible or do i need to get the harness off the 05 as well?

 

The radio plugs right in. so the indash am/fm cd will work just fine.

However,

If you want a cd changer then you need to buy a new one (04 05)as the changer cable is different (different buss)

Also if you want the oem Xm (which is an option for the 04 / 05 radio's then you need to buy the cd changer y cable from the dealier (this is the oem cable if you were going to use the fact cd changer and the fact xm. YOu would then use this cable to run between your o5 hu and the OEM xm reciever which you would mount under the passenger seat.

I know all of the above is FACT as i did this previously in my 00.

off curiousity, why are you installing the oem '05 head unit in your car? wouldn't an aftermarket stereo be better?
