Default 12v outlet problem

So heres the deal, when my radio is on and i plug my cell phone charger the radio turns off. Also instead of chargeing my phone it drains my phones battery. What could be the problem?

Specs on the charger? If you're not supplying more than you're using you'll drain your phone's battery. You should sort out the existing issue with the head unit first though.

Is the charger shorted out? What size fuse do you have in the radio slot?

Does the charger work in another car? Do other 12v devices work in your car?

Any luck fixing it?

Have you inspected fuse #9? It is for the accessory outlet and radio remote switch.

Does the HU always turn off when you plug in a device into the accessory outlet? Is so, do you have any devices which draw no power that you can plug in? e.g. plug or splitter. Do you have a voltmeter that you can use to check the voltage of the outlet?

[strike]Do you have the stock head unit? Have you tried seeing if the 12v outlet works when the HU is removed?[/strike] (note: I don't think these are likely an issue. It probably has to do with the wiring in the accessory outlet or fuse #9.)
