2 amps above fuel tank.
Hi all,
I currently have an Alpine PDX 2.150 and I've tried a test fit above the fuel tank. It's a tight fit, and I'll probably need to do modifications to the convertible tray above it to create an extra bit of head room to let the amp breathe.
My question is, I'll most likely be adding another Alpine PDX 1.600 to power a sub. Is it possible to squeeze that in the same location? I'm thinking it might be possible but will be an "interesting" experience in doing so.
I want the amps to be as hidden away as humanly possible. I can't help but feel I'll be tempting fate by removing the spare wheel; knowing sod's law, I'll get a puncture immediately upon doing so.

it may be physically possible to fit them both there - I believe there's enough
total space there, except you need to worry about the fuel gauge sending
unit. My memory is that the space to the left of the sender is roughly 15"x15"
The PDX amp might fit behind the sender - it's pretty narrow - which would
buy you some additional space. A PDX might fit inside the spare tire, though
you'll need to do some clever engineering work to hold the spare in place
and release it when you need it - changing the hold-down bolt for a strap,
for instance.

Crikey!
That's reassuring. Is it MDF you used to mount the two amps? Looks quite thin.
It looks like it is all squeezed in to the left of that fuel gauge wire thingy that sticks out of the tank, is that so?
If so, that's exactly what I was after, thanks!

Yes, MDF (although I didn't make it).
The Alto amp is only 37mm tall so fits easily enough, and your PDX may be too tall to fit there, perhaps cured by using thinner mdf to mount.
Might you be better off with a PDX5 instead?

A height of 37mm for the Alto does indeed make it more possible.
I've tried some test fitting today to see if it was possible. I'll most likely mimic how you've arranged the amps lovegroova.
Here's the amp as it would be on the right side:

and the amp on the left:

Indeed, the word is tight. The amp needed wiggling in to get it where I wanted, not ideal if the amp was to be mounted to the board.
It's the rear/convertible tray that needs sorting. It looks the underside has a sort of "grid" design and cutting those off might create the extra headroom to make it more smooth to get in and out. Then again I've read others cutting out holes or even just leaving it out altogether.
First things first though, is to remove the tray itself. I've said to myself to never ever do it again though so am dreading it.

You might want to try mounting the left hand amp at an angle. There is a lot of space down there behind the filler pipe. It'd give you easier access to the connectors.
Tricky, for sure. But worth a think.
It may just be easier to mount one under/behind the passenger seat.
I still think a PDX-5 is the best solution really...
