Default 2005 radio question...

I am looking for a replacement radio for my 2005 s2k. What I am looking for is something like what I have in my 2004 Mazda 6. As I accelerate the radio gets louder, then as you slow down it gets quieter. I also want to be able to use the controls left of the steering wheel. Should I upgrade my speakers? Would you recommend the behind the seats speakers? Thanks for any input. Ive had my s2k for about 6 months and am loving it!

I had a 05 before I got my 07 and I put an Alpine stereo in it and used a Modifry DCI adapter and all the factory buttons beside the steering wheel did the same function and all also did a second function (depending on how long you held the button down)

Here's the link for the DCI--it's made specifically for the S2k to adapt aftermarket stereos to work with all the factory knobs. It also has the "speed setting" that raises and lowers the volume depending on the vehicle speed (it's user programmable to set the speed it changes and volumes you want) There's several versions of the DCI depending on which head unit you decide to get

Ask the folks on the Electronics Forum for recommendations on which head unit to buy depending on what your budget is and what other features you want---amp or not, subwoofer, rear speakers, etc. That's also the best place to ask about speakers--most folks will tell you you should upgrade the door speakers (I did) and there's various opinions on whether rear speakers are worth it and what type to get and where to mount them--you'll just have to read the opinions and decide what's best for you.

good luck

Pretty much what jetboater said. Get the Modifry DCI. If you get an Alpine HU, you can get the plug and play harness from Modifry as well and make the installation ten times easier.

As for what system to get, as stated, it all depends on what you are looking for. An upgraded HU and door speakers will make a tremendous difference over the stock setup (I have an 05 as well and replaced the HU, door tweeters and midwoofers and added a small amp). Figure out what you want and then set a budget around that.
