2006 Alpine CDA-9856 DCI?
I just ordered the alpine cda 9856 from crutchfield and im not sure if its wired for the DCI. I want to get the modifry DCI But which do i get, the wired one or the IR one. I just want to be sure before i order it. TIA
You need the IR version. The 9856 does not have the 3.5mm jack for wired control. The IR window is in the upper right corner of the head unit, so it's easy to hide the IR emitter. I just installed a 9856 and the Alpine IR DCI works perfectly. Be sure to get the Modifry wiring harness to keep from splicing into the factory wiring harness. It has the extra wires needed to connect the DCI.

It's OK. I'm still getting used to it. It has the same problems as most other newer head units - too many buttons that arent' organized in a logical fashion. Luckily, the DCI gives you control of the functions used 90% of the time, so you don't have to go searching for the right button.
The sound is a huge improvement over stock - and that's with the stock speakers. I don't have the iPod cable yet, but it should be here today. This was the main motivation in changing the head unit in the first place.
