Default 2nd Hand Audio

Hi Guys

I recently bought an MY06 and wanted to know where the cars audio stood. Im no audiophile or expert but I can say that the sound system currently sounds pretty bad.; its tinny and weak.

What should I look for? where? I know the head unit is not stock (its a pioneer deh-p6000ub), there is a single wire stray in the trunk that I am assuming is for some kind of audio.

How many speakers come stock in the s2000? how good are they? I just want decent/enjoyable sound when I go for a drive (maybe a sub some time down the line) and nothing intense or special, whats the most bang for the buck upgrade/mod?

I have a weird feeling he had a sub then made the separates inside the car go all treble... if my hunch is right could he be doing it from the head unit or is there an amp somewhere?

TIA!

For all your questions: depends on who you ask. Audio's very subjective. Stock there are 2 fronts and 4 roll hoop speakers (basically tweeters). We can't tell you what you'll prefer or find to be the best bang for the buck. You have to give us more info for us to make such recommendations. You need to define where you specifically want to go. As always, getting out there and listening to the options is your best bet for finding what will suit you best.

You might want to start with a better understanding of where your car currently stands. Find someone with car audio knowledge or take it to a shop if you can't determine for yourself. Check your local subforum for recommendations.

^^You have to have a goal in mind and with that a budget. It would be good to know what you have in the first place. If someone already replaced the HU then they might have replaced the speakers and might have had an amp back there as well. Take some pics of what you can see and then work on removing the door panels to see what speakers are in place.

thanks for the replies! goal in mind... best way to put it is I can drown out road noise with the top up when on the freeway and share some of my music with the top down city driving, all without the sound getting gurgled. dont necesarilly want thumping base so a subwoofer is optional if i can get enough bottom from whatever I have.

where are amplifiers usually placed in an s2000?
