Default Can the original head unit handle the power?

Hi guys,

I am very much into modifying my baby, but somewhere I have not ventured before is 'ice' or a good sound system.

Since I intend to keep my S for a while, I though I should upgrade the system since, in all honesty, it is shite!

The audio technician has recommended (after some discussion into what I wanted and how much I didn't want to spend ) a 300 watt JL Audio subwoofer with amp, 2, 150 watt Boston speakers at the front with amp. Now I really don't have a clue what most of this means or does.

I want a decent sound system - don't need to shake the foundations or hold a party with this system I just wanted to ask whether the stock headunit/stereo can handle this set up without a problem?

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I am such a dunce when it comes to this subject, that I wouldn't even know what to search for!

Cheers!

This topic has been beat back and forth for years. There are people who think it's best to change the OEM headunit and there are others that feel you don't have to. Here is one such thread were the topic is discussed.

Just for the record I've change my headunit.

THanks guys!

IT sounds like the age old - 'is the Invidia loud or not' question, depends on personal opinions.

May try the stock head unit and see how I go!

I have been running the stock headunit for almost 2 years with stock door speakers and a 12" sub until it blew. But I didn't know what I was missing as far as upgrading the door speakers with my amp hooked up to them. And I have been spending my money on other stuff. Right now I am running door speakers Polk db's with stock radio and it is plenty fine.
