Are 3 small woofers really better than big one?

I'd opt for 3x 6's over 1x 10 anyday. Seems far more dynamic.
Great idea -- looks amazing.
What kind of amp (s) would you use to power the 6's?

If I used 4 ohm subs, it would be at 1.33 ohms which maybe too low.
The other amp I was considering is the JL HD900/5 powerhouse but it's a $1000 amplifier ~ ouch
You guys make some excellent points, all speaker drivers are compromies for sure. Larger woofers are super heavy and the large magnets have no place in an s2000. I already did the single 10w6 and I know it hits hard. I just wanted to try something different just because so decided to try x3 6" woofers.
I'm looking for deep accurate tight bass like most people and enjoy music that can be felt and heard. However I'm not going for SPL or any bass competitions.
We all like to "push the envelope" and this is what I'm trying to do here.
Already removed the rear plastic "tub" tray piece to allow air to get into the cabin faster with minimal vibration and the entire car has been gutted with DYNAMAT to quite the noise floor.
Can't wait to fire this up soon!

My original plan was to use a PDX 1.600 mono amp. The three subs at 8 ohms each will give the amp a 2.66 ohm final value.

UPDATE: 6/23/10
Last minute change, we updated the amplifier to the JL HD900/5. This is essentially a JL 300/4 and 500/1 amp combined into a smaller footprint than one PDX amplifier. Simply an awesome amp!
I have 2 channels bridged per side for the focals and the sub channel is running 500 watts into the three 6w3 woofers.
We fired it up earlier tonight - the subs are 4 ohm so it's running 1.33 ohms which is not optimal. We do not have the 8 ohms speakers yet so just wanted to test the box for leaks.
The triple 6" has AMAZING excursion and I was shocked with the output. The bass is extremely deep but punchy. You can really see those woofers moving and the excursion is very tight and controlled.
I have to do a lot of fine tuning but we removed the rear shelf so the sound flows nicely into the cabin. Top up or down, the bass is unchanged and sounds awesome.
More testing up-coming! So far I'm a very happy camper
Only downfall is this sub box takes roughly 2 days (16-20 hours to build) so the cost is easily $1400+ in labor for just the box. The woofers list for $199 each plus you must have a heavy duty amp like the JL HD900/5 so overally this setup is $$$$ but oh well, you only live one!

I'm definitely not an expert, but my fear would be that it would sound really "boomy" because the 6" woofers can't hit the really low decible bass while giving you a ton of mid-bass.
adding more of the same speaker isn't going to change the range of the speakers.
I hope I'm wrong and above all, I hope you enjoy the result because the install is really nice.

After about a week of driving top down and up listening with various music here's some of my impressions:
1) Bass is definitely louder top up but top down it still pounds. The funny thing is that the bass sounds tigher top down.
2) There is no "boominess" at all - in fact this setup his harder and lower than my single 10w6. In any experiment you should only change one factor at a time but in this case, I upgraded my amp from a PDX to a JL HD900 that has 500 watts of power so it's unfair to compare the two speakers.
3) I can play the Alpine headunit to almost 95% of full volume with no distortion which is amazing!
4) The Focal K2P power speakers hold up very well with the JL amp running 150 watts per bridged set. Cross over is set at 65hz high pass.
5) Sub is set at 60 hz low pass and has the Infrasonic filter at 30hz
The s2000 will never be a high fidelity concert hall but I do believe my current setup out-ranks my previous one and will give many cars a run for it's money. Granted I went seriously over-budget on this system it has quite a bit of WOW factor in both sound and looks so I'm a happy camper
