Again, you have just flooded us with topic-related useful information. Do you own an S? Or are you just trolling for business, 'cause that's what it looks like from the crap you post.

And no, I didn't waste 20 minutes searching for all of your posts. Knowledgable or not, you post like a total ass. Your internet attitude is not what our community is about. Step off.

Sincerely,
Skip

That guy at tweeter is working on a commision so he's on a mission to empty your wallet...

There will be greater gains to be had from changing your whole set-up for sure, but a huge imrovement would have been made by changing the HU alone. The stock HU on the '01 has little to no power, just a slight increase in power would help you hear music with the top down at speed.

I have my doubts about the component set working without adaqaute power. What component set did he sell you? When you demo'd them you were listening to them amped, or at the very least off a decent HU; not off your stock HU. I'd put money on that you aren't going to the same sound out of you car that did in the demo room at tweeter.

Well as I also disagree will the gentlemen from Tweeter, I fear the same as Bill that your not going to get the same sound you heard in the demo room.
One of the main reasons for changing out your HU is to get more power. Even just replacing your HU your stock speakers will sound better by themselves.
I would consider returning the speakers and getting a good HU.

Whatever way you deside to go, have fun and enjoy your car!
As a novice with good ears I agree wtih DKKnight ... a friend with an S replaced his speakers without upgrading his HU and the speakers continue to sound lousy... actually it hurts my ears after a few min. Tho he doesnt care (he's tone deaf) I can't ride in his car with music on as it really hurts that bad.
I think (if you have decent hearing and appreciate good sounds) you will probably eventually upgrade HU and speakers in due time, as I did.
Happy Motoring!

i bought a HU and a speaker set ... installed the speakers first and didn't noticed any different. i was disappointed ````

at the same day the HU was installed and the sound had a HUGE improvement.

i think starting with a HU is the right path (^_^) `

Haha thanks for the concern. I did ask him to turn the amp off. I was able to also hear it with the amp so i would be able to tell what it would sounds like when i got one. I got JL xr650.

I think im going to be picking up an amp today from my friend. Do you guys think that will help the lack of power produced by the HU?

deffinitely. the stock headunit does not have enough power to get you pass to the volume where you would feel comfortable with the sound. No matter what speakers you have, 10w or so will not be enough unless you like stock speakers or you plan to listen to music at volume 1. lol.
