Default 350z DoubleDin HU install question

Helping my friend out with his new HU install. Haven't been able to take a look at it myself but from the pictures it seems like he's done everything right.

Model: Kenwood DDX419
Metra wiring harness
No steering wheel controls so that wasn't hooked up.
He grounded the illumincation ground, amp ground and the ebrake green wire to do the parking brake bypass (with kenwood units apparently grounding is enough rather than adding a switch)

When he plugs the unit in, the touch screen does not work and the unit is stuck at the set up screen.

The unit turns on and everything and it seems like the wires are all connected up properly. Anyone have any experience with the touch screen not working before and have a solution / is it just a defective unit?

PS couldn't find anything online about the touchscreen not working.

Has he tried resetting the unit?

There's no real reset.

I asked him to disconnect the battery, unplug the unit from the harness and start it up again. Didnt work

Accoridng to him, the cd player functions in the sense that it ejects and takes the CD.

The left buttons do actually work but you can't move beyond the setup screen without the touchscreen functioning.

I seem to have a feeling that it was probably dead on arrival..

Fyi.. 350z forums are the epitomy of uselessness..

I believe the upside down red triangle is the reset button.

If that doesn't work, then I'm guessing he received a defective head unit since some functions do work, but not all.

So turns out the unit was defective. Took it to bestbuy and they tested it out themselves and didn't work.

Got the unit working now. Appreciate the help anyway

Good to hear that we both weren't crazy with our assessments, and that your friend was able to get it replaced .

Yeah, the guys at bestbuy were being dicks because we were doing the install ourselves.

Wouldn't take our word for it till they plugged it in themselves.

Don't overlook car audio forums as well. Not every issue is vehicle specific (like this one).

Yeah not too familiar with specific forums but google was no help. The only people who had issues with the touchscreen alone were on faulty units from people using wet hands to operatet their systems etc. We just figured the unit was brand new and it must have been something we messed up with the wiring rather than the unit itself.

But yeah posted this on the 350z forums and the responses were

Should have bought a better unit,
nood trying to rip apart his car
something about the macbook in the picture I can't remember LOL
