Default 60 Watt Speaker from Honda (Upgrade & direct plug in)

I am not an electrical wizard by any means, and would like to know from someone who does know about this speaker. It is a Honda OEM upgrade replacement speaker 6.5" Coax w/60 watt max. I would like to install myself, and the fact that they are direct plug in replacements makes it less intimidating to me. Is this direct plug in the case with all speakers, or would I have to do some re-wiring with a different speaker? This speaker I'm talking about can be viewed at www.handa-accessories.com The original terrible sounding stock speaker is same size, but only rated at 15 watt max, and looks like it has a cheapo tweeter compared to the upgrade. A little help is appreciated on this.... Thanks, Kevin

Don't limit yourself to direct plug in speakers. There are adapters that allow you to add any kind of speaker you desire (that fit of course) without cutting the stock wiring. If you want these adapters I'll give them to you no charge - I have a bunch on hand.

As for the specific speaker you mentioned, I don't have an opinion on it because I haven't heard it.

I am pretty sure that these are what came standard in MY2001. They are just a bit higher quality paper cone woofers with one of those paper dual-cone add ons. They did sound much better than my MY2000 stereo did, but then again the MY2001 stereo has a bit more power as well. Anyway...I replaced them with Kenwood 1687's and I am very happy with the results. You can get adapters that will allow you to install aftermarket speakers without cutting the stock wires...if you buy them from Crutchfield, you get the adapters free.

P.S. I also added Kewood 1077's behind the seats and that makes an amazing difference.

Add Rear speakers, its a very cost effective upgrade that can be further improved if you upgrade your head unit.

Rad,

See my webpage for instructions on upgrading the speakers, and then decide for yourself if it's a job you feel comfortable doing yourself.

Thanks for everybody's help on speaker replacement info.... I'm not going to change out the head unit, so I will definitely get speakers that are a compliment to this. We have several Audio Hi-Fi stores here in Knoxville, so i'll check what's availabe there, and also at circuit city and best buy. Thanks again.... Kevin

Mine is a 2000 model delivered in late March 2000. The factory speakers were lousy to say the best --- some research revealed that the Infinity Kappa 62.1i speakers would fit -- bought those and a pair of foam surrounds from Crutchfield and a Honda speaker wire/plug pair from another source .... the install was easy -- no cutting etc ... the sound is MUCH improved and the cost was $140.00 total.
