Default Installed Sony Xplode XSV1632 - no mod to speaker basket required

The Xplode XSV1632 speakers ($90 at Best Buy) are 3-way, and will fit in the speaker basket without having to cut it. It must be shorter than the older model 1631, which sounded like cutting was required. For anyone looking for a fairly inexpensive sound upgrade I would recommend these speakers. I think any quality 2 or 3-way speakers will be a vast improvement. The sound is so much better, throughout the range and more volumn. I was thinking I may need an amp, but these speakers sound so much louder. So I will stick with the stock head and these speakers for now.

Only install notes:
The speaker does not have holes to match the 3-screw pattern on the stock speakers, but there are holes in the basket that will line up with the 4 screw pattern, so you will have to dig up a few screw or drill holes in the speaker.

The wire terminals are very close to the speaker basket, so I bent them just slightly and ran the wires toward the speaker magnet and then down and out the basket.

The stock connector will not work, so I had to cut them off and solder a ~6" pigtail using the wires that came with the speakers.

Ditto for me! I just had mine installed this morning at Best Buy - I figured it was worth the $30.00 to have them install it so I could avoid even coming close to running a screwdriver through the leather! They sound awesome!
