Why do you say that? I've heard some 6x9s that actually sound pretty good. Do you think that 6 1/2s would sound better? I just wanted some variety. I already have 6 1/2s in the doors and behind the seats.

If you look at the really high end 6x9's they're a 6 1/2" and a tweeter component set which fit in a 6x9 opening. Same thing with 5x7's they're a 4" and a tweeter set. Any oblong speaker is just not a good idea. Think about it, it's any easy way to make a bigger speaker in a small space, but NOT a better speaker. The shape easily distorts when pushed hard.

WOW, I didn't know that I was going to piss so many people off. I've heard quite a few OEM systems that utilize 6x9s in the rear tray and sound decent.

Honestly, I have more than enough high and mid, I'm looking more for low end. I use most of the space in my trunk daily so I really don't have room for a separate sub box. I just got the idea because I have to remove the rear tray to install my roll bar.

I'm still looking for ideas. If 6x9s really are the work of the devil, what other sugestions do you have? 6 or 8 in sub? Component set? Please help me!

I agree with X-Ruckus.......

I have had them in all my cars besides my S2000. I had MBquart, Pioneer, Kenwood, etc......they sound at BEST just OK. Get a sub if you want low end.

X-ruckus is also correct that the more frequencies you ask a SINGLE speaker to produce, the worse the sound Q and the more distortion. (it is physically impossible to hum and whistle at the same time right, same for speakers)

If you want low end, get a small sub.

P.S. A REAL 6x9 is a tweeter and a woofer that is an OVAL shape. 6 inches by 9 inches. The 6.5's that are in a 6x9 frame are exactly that....just a frame made for fitment.

oneaudiopro ... i'm mixed up ? please elaborate... But i will add i should have said MOST not all, there are a FEW good trys at high end coaxial . And they do have the benerfit of zero axis and phase issue's. But i'll stick to Comps thanks very much.

1FastS2k, you just what more BASS why didnt you say so.. You can get 6x9 shaped subs..

I've heard both the MA audio and the Genesis 6x9 shaped sub. The MA look big and bad but are not all that IMO. The Gennys are a SQ treat and very cheap to boot..
www.genesis-ice.com
They dont seam to be on there site yet but drop them a email to see where you can get a set near you..
BTW just so you get an idea on how good these are, they have heard a set in a new there show/comp MINI. its a pure SQ car and it ONLY has one set of these as subs. There powered by one of there baby Profile amps and it still hit 137db..
