Well, I haven't abandoned this, for those who are interested; however, once I started tearing things apart and looking at it some more, I came up with all sorts of great ideas of how I could improve on the design.

Anyway, it is going to turn out pretty well... I think! Tonight I was able create the mold of the box with clay and I've begun the fiberglass procedure. It's a long procedure for me, as this is my first time ever working with fiberglass... But, it's been fun (and messy) so far and I think I will have a finished product by this time next week... My biggest problem right now is time. I've only got night time during the week and I'm doing it at my buddy's shop which is 30+ minutes away...

Anyway, enough rambling... I hope to have pictures up tomorrow, but no promises. Another friend of mine was snapping pics tonight but he's got the camera, so I don't know when he'll pull them off to the computer... I'll check back when I have more!

Ok, here's the first batch of pictures. It starts with a 6" PVC coupling which makes for a great start to house the actual sub. I cut the coupling in half and that's what you see here in place:

Next, I put a little bowl in to raise the back just enough to fit the magnet in. Here's how it looks with a layer of fiber:

Placed in the car, I start adding clay to make my mold:

Back out of the car, I've got a complete mold:

And here it is with its first layer of fiberglass. There's saran wrap under the fiber (bad idea!!!) that was supposed to help keep the fiberglass from eating the clay:

Sorry, I'm working getting a new website up host my pictures at. PM me an e-mail address and I can send you what I've done. I did finish the project and the 6" sounds awesome! I had this same sub in the spare tire area in a ported box, but it couldn't compare to bringing the sub into the cabin. Driving down the interstate topless, you can still hear and feel the beat very well.

Thanks for posting the pics!

Obviously, I've been a little slack "finishing" this. I've got to put new carpet on it, since it got nasty when I was figuring out how to mount it. That's what happens when you get it put together and working at like 2:00 am on a Sunday night. You don't care what it looks like at that point, you just want to be able to make it to work the next morning. Anyway, it doesn't look as bad as the pictures make it out to be. It also doesn't stick out very far, as it seems. My girlfriend didn't notice any legroom loss. All in all though, it sounds good!

Kicker makes an 8in sub that is very shallow. I have been trying to get my buddy to build a glass box to go up under the dash on the passenger side and have it fire downward towards the floorboard. It won't hit like a sub in the trunk, but it would greatly improve the sound quality of the one of the worst sounding stock set ups that I have ever heard. I know a few say that it doesn't sound bad, but the driver location is horrible since your legs cover the speakers. I have added aftermarket h/u, speakers and amp, and have purchased the the tweeter pods (i have an 00) from Hardtopguy to bring the highs higher up so my leg doesn't block the sound. Good luck on what you are wanting to accomplish, and please post some pics once it's complete.
