Wow. That's fairly meaningful compared to "3 bars"

Did I miss something? Are you including an overlay for the stock temp gauge?

I thought I would just know what the bars actually meant in F.

I'm fully content with the stock ECT gauge, myself, (inasmuch as I don't need or even want anything more than illuminating bars -- adding numbers wouldn't be helpful for me), and I think the proposed built-in thresholds for triggering those bars that Modifry is proposing are perfect. - CB

I confess that while I love some things about my setup, the fact that the AEM EMS won't drive the stock temperature gauge has always annoyed me. Modifry's not only resolved that frustration but also revealed that the stock gauge is all-but-useless anyway. Now, if only he's ship the d(*&^mned things! (j/k, Mod.)

Just messing around.

I printed a clear label and stuck it on the front of the gauge panel to see if it was readable. It can be read, at least from where I sit, but it looks better in the photo than it does in person. At night when the gauge dims the numbers are harder to read, and since the label is a matte finish (like "invisible" tape) it shows up during the day - looks like somebody put tape on the gauge panel (duh!).

If I used clear (glossy) labels it would look better but I can't find any. Better yet would be to remove the instrument panel and put a clear overlay directly on the gauge. That way you wouldn't see the tape at all, just the numbers when they lit up. If I can find any clear labels I may do that to mine, but it's a lot of work to pull the instrument panel just to stick a label on it, and if you change the temp values later you'd have to do it again.

A question for those of you buying this thing - do any of you plan on using the alarm output?

I thought of hooking my alarm output up to the seatbelt warning light, but I want to make it blink a few times when it first comes on to get my attention, then stay on steady. Any problems with making this blinking a "standard" feature, or would you prefer just the ON/OFF alarm output?

It's not a problem for me either way, if you want blinking I'll make your module like mine, if you prefer no blinking then I'll make it steady.

One more thing - I need your programming temps. Later today or tomorrow I'll try to email all those that have placed orders, but I need to know if you're using the AEM EMS or not and what temps you want programmed for the initial values. While I'm sure the AEM guys will be changing the values via a laptop, if I have any non-AEM buyers they will most likely to use it "as-is" so the initial values will need to be what they want.

Just email me the 6 temps you want for each bar, plus the alarm temp. I'll convert the temps to voltage values to program the units, which is why I need to know if you're AEM or stock - they have different voltages for the same temp. For the AEM guys I'll assume a 2k pull-up resistor in the AEM and alter the voltage values accordingly.

Oops, almost forgot. I added a pushbutton to the module to activate Diagnosti Mode. Just press the button anytime the ignition is ON and the unit will operate in Diagnostic Mode until you turn the ignition OFF. Next time you turn the ignition ON it goes back to regular mode. This is not only easier than jumpering the RS232 lead to +12v, it prevents extended operation in Diagnostic Mode.

Still on schedule to ship next week.

Hi Modifry,

1. No, I won't use the alarm output.

2. Yes, I have an EMS.

3. For ECT thresholds, I'd like to stick to the original calibration you'd proposed:

2 bars - 160

I will use an alarm, but I'm happy with the thresholds above:

2 bars - 160
