Finally! I have some good news to report. You guys have been so patient I can't believe it. I think I've postponed the release of this product twice and haven't been nagged a single time.

I've actually been living with my prototype for several months just waiting to find the time to tweak the last few features till it suited me. The new years weekend provided enough time to do just that and I'm pretty happy with what I've got to offer.

Rather than post all the gory details here, please visit my web site. Bear in mind I don't have any photos yet and still have some work to do on the instructions, but there's enough information there for you to decide if this is something you want.

I do have one question that I would like some feedback on:

Is it worth making an accessory to allow programming OUT of the car? (at your desk)

The module can be programmed using a PC with a standard serial port, but the module must be powered up to accept programming. Normally it would only be powered when it's installed in the car, so programming pretty much requires a laptop computer or you lug your desktop to the garage.

The accessory could be as simple as a different programming cable with electronics inside to siphon power from the PC's serial port, or I may find the serial port doesn't have sufficient current to flash the EEPROM and we'll have to use a 9v battery or something similar. It would probably be an additional $10-$15 and I would make it an optional accessory.

.

I've ordered mine!

Not sure that out of car programming is necessary and definitely not if it will cause a delay.

Also, let me know what I owe on shipping and I will forward it.

Install is connect 4 wires and hide behind kick panel. You provide power (two leads), tap the temp signal to the ECU and replace the temp gauge signal going out of the ECU.

Virtually everyone with the AEM EMS is using a laptop. The out of car module is probably not necessary.

The module is about the size of a DCI, and installation is very similar to my Yellow Jacket module. If you check out those 2 products on my web site you'll have a good idea what to expect.

AusS2000 - if I build the programming accessory it won't delay the product. If it's not ready in time I'll just ship it separately. And I know I can do Priority Mail to 'down under' within my budget, so no need for extra shipping.

Sideways - you're probably right about the AEM users, but maybe I'll get enough stock users that don't have laptops.

Since MY04 and 05 have 20 segments on the gauge, do you need to modify the module to accept more than the six set points or would you be able to simply add more set points to the data file?

Let me know if there is anything that I can test on my 04 to help out.

My two cents: the option of programming the thresholds outside of the car has little value. Only a few people are going to want to change the values anyway. Those that do likely have access to a laptop anyway.

Thanks for taking this on, Modifry. I'm in the queue for one of them. It'll be nice to NOT have to wonder what my ECTs are when I'm not using the laptop and NICE to know while on the track what they are when I don't want to look down at the laptop to find out.

Best,
CB
