Default After the installation

Hey everyone,

So i just installed my Alpine 9857 and Modrify DCI, but three issues came up.

1. ) Is the new head unit suppose to pause when I turn off the engine. I mean, you know how when you park and you want to listen to some music? Well the stereo sorta does a pause, like a 3 to 5 seconds thing. Is that normal?

2. ) The CH button on the dash stopped working. It's reallly weird, it was working fine the first 1.5 days, then it just stopped last night.

3. ) Since i installed the stereo myself, is the warranty voided because i messed with the wires? How does this effect my insurance?

Just wanted to clear up some confusion here. Thanks in advance.

i'd suggest just going over the wiring again...i'm assuming you didn't solder

try that first...then work from there

the warranty for your stereo is voided but it shouldn't have any effect on the warranty for any other part of your car

You know i did solder, i gave it a good tug before i covered it up with electrical tape.

You think it might be the wiring? I guess i'll give it a look see tomorrow. Thanks!

it does pause which is normal. the car has a slight hiccup on power and your amp will show it. if you really dont want this anymore, put a very very small capicotor on the wire and it will stop the problem

Where did you buy the HU from? If you purchased it from an authorized dealer the your warranty should be fine.

It does not effect your cars warranty at all, assuming you used the proper wiring harness to wire this in.

It would not affect your insurance in any way.

Re-check all your wiring and look for the missing link Then re-read the HU manual for info on the pausing feature.

My stereo doesn't pause when I turn the key to Acc... it's a Kenwood though, so maybe it has a small cap built in to help prevent this.

If you think it's the DCI then I would block the IR LED (test that it's blocked w/ the volume) then turn the engine off and see if it still does that.

When going from Run to Acc the stereo power isn't interrupted or changed in anyway... the stereo shouldn't know the difference so it wouldn't be a "feature" of the HU.

If it's not the DCI doing something funky (probable since the Ch button isn't working) then I would try a small capacitor as boyguan stated above.

With the 9857 the DCI should be wired...I thought. Did you size the wires (shorten them) when you added the DCI? I posted a question asking about the install as I plan to install the harness (from modfry) before I install the 9857.

Doh, haha... as soon as I started typing I just went with "what I would do"... just sub "block the IR" with "unplug the DCI input from the radio"

personally I left the full length on all the wires in the harness. Then I was I was able to pull the DCI harness out between the console under the drivers side. Then I just diect taped it up aganst the fascia underneath. This way I can change the settings on the DCI with minimal hassle.

BTW mine works perfectly so far, although I haven't tested the volume speed control

The pause is a boot feature. All alpine stereos boot up, which takes about 5 seconds. When you turn the key off, the power cuts off, and the HU shuts off, even if its for a split second
