I have heard the Viper is pretty good. The 690VX model has a 2-way LCD key fob that beeps or vibrates if you are within the range (usually something like 1/4 mile). I had one on my old Celica. I also put a perimeter sensor on the rear seat, you could probable put one on the windshield, and that would prevent people from getting sticky fingers when the top is down or keep people from tossing trash in the car.
If $ is no problem, get the top of the line Viper, comes with all bells and whistles (transponders, remote start (handy in winter), and can assume functions of normal fob (trunk pop)) and should also come with ignition immobilizer and GPS tracking for recovery.
John
ps-should be around $400.00-450.00 for the 690VX and approaching $500+ for the top of the line, and required professional installation, or warranties are voided. Good thing is most car audio shops should carry Viper.

I had my S raped last week by a group of thieves who tried to start my baby. Luckily for me, the stock alarm system DID work - they were unable to start the car, however they still slashed the top, pulled the front wheels, yanked my seats, and as an added bonus - these guys took my steering wheel. My advice is buy a hard top.
Clifford Matrix RS 3.5 is a pretty nice system for about 300
Clifford G5 is the next step up, has A LOT of options.
Compustar is a very nice one if you ask me.
Viper
Autopage is all right.
Dont even bother with Black Widow, Aladin, Fusion, and any generic ebay brand alarms.
Have someone extend the wires if necessary and hide the alarm brain, install the hood switch towards the back of the hood, not the front of the car where it can be easily cut/disconnected, install back up batter, install proximity sensors (if you're that anal about it), disconnect the trunk release wire and switch it out with the cigarete lighter, so that it will only work with the key in the ON position.
