Crutchfield has it for $199 with an iPod cable and free "installation" equipment which includes the harness... am I missing something here?
Installation equipment normally means a harness and some connectors and a small roll of electrical tape, not the radio mounting brackets.

Np :-) glad everything went good.... the power pack is pretty sweet... it uses the same tech as the PDX amps... it puts out 50w x 4 RMS (which the radio only does 18 rms) does 100x4 peak.... it's plug and play , you don't have to hook anything else up - no running power wire , no rca's... nada! and it's at a price point which is sweet at $99.99 , I'd recommend it to anyone not wanting to get a 4 channel amp but wants more power.
would you be able to get the power pack? hehehe

I just overhauled my audio for the summer as well, my budget was similar to yours here what I managed.

Alpine Cda 9885 brand new with Ipod cable. $184 + $23 usps shipping.
Great thing about this deck is that it looks very much stokish and is not flashy at all + the buttons can be set to glow red/orange instead of blue.

Speakers, Polk Db6501 6.5 $109 + $20 usps shipping.

It has a cd player and usb input. That's why I opted for this over the 9885. The 9885 on ebay was around 220 shipped mine was 230 shipped. So for an extra $10 I upgraded to the 9886 and couldn't be happier.

The only thing that bugs me about the 9886 is that it doesn't seem to pause the iPod when the ignition is cut off.

Could you change the backlight color on 9886 to red or orange?

So this is the back of my 9886 showing that nothing is plugged into the USB wire, it's just 'there'. As you can see the wire cannot be removed - and after re-connecting everything I still have to scroll through the USB option ... I did get the unit the very first week it was available from Crutchfield ...

Not the biggest deal obviously it just annoys me every time I scroll past it. I would be eternally grateful if someone could find me away around this!!
