Aftermarket speakers
hey guys, i got a few simple questions that i'm sure all of you can answer while mocking me for not knowing better, however, i'm not too keen on doing mods to any car myself. i was wondering what are some good relatively cheap (i'm paying for the car myself, and i'm still in school!!..therefore i have a very limited cashflow) aftermarket speakers and where i can buy them, because as we all know, the stock ones more or less suck. i was also wondering if you had to take off the door panel to install them, because from what i've read from other threads is that taking off the door panel sometimes leads to a malfunctioning window, especially when it automatically comes down when you put the top down. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks!!
I've never heard that replacing the 'speakers' causes the window regulator to fail; they fail just fine on their own!
There are lots of posts here about various replacements for the stock 'speakers'; Sony, Kenwood, Polk, Infinity, etc. Prices are all over the place, and they're all much better.

When $$$ are an issue, just go with adding a set of lucid's rear speakers. You'll notice a HUGE increase in sound quality and quanitity even at freeway speeds, even with his cheapest speakers. If you're a real audiophile, that won;t cut it for you, but if all you want is to hear your music, rears are absolutely the way to go. lucid makes it really easy - all the wiresconnectors you need, and great instructions so it's almost impossible to screw up!

I second JonasM's recommendation.
Keep in mind that the stock radio has four output channels but only connects speakers to two. Lucid's wiring harness connects the rears to the unused channels, so you're effectively getting more power.
I installed the rear speakers and they made a *noticeable* difference. Then I upgraded the door speakers a couple of weeks later; I really couldn't tell the difference. As far as I'm concerned, the rear speakers are the most bang for the fewest bucks.
I can now hear the stereo at 75 mph with the top and windows down. That was impossible before the rear speakers.
Lucid is famous for the instructions he includes with the kits. Anyone with reasonable coordination should be able to follow his instructions successfully. Check out his website.
