Default Alarm no longer chirps when arming/disarming

It's the weirdest thing. All of a sudden, when I lock/unlock the car, it doesn't chirp. Maybe I hit some button combination without realizing it. I know I'm not in valet mode because I can set the alarm off by shaking the car. Also, I can't pop the trunk using the key fob unless the car is unlocked (which I would be able to do if it were in valet mode). I've also gone in and out of valet mode just to make sure.

If anyone has any ideas, I'd sure appreciate it. I've had the car about 6 months and this is the first time this has happened. Please let me know if any more info is needed to help troubleshoot. If I can't figure it out, I guess I'll try going to the store where the previous owner bought the alarm and see if they can help me troubleshoot.

I tried reading the manual, and the only thing I could come up with is the setting that toggles between chirp on/off/quiet. However, there is no mention of a way to change that setting using the key fob; only with the "PlainView 2" switch (the two button switch mounted in the car), and since it's mounted in a place where it can't be pressed by accident, I know that isn't the culprit.

It's actually unfortunate that I didn't play around with the settings earlier, because now I've been trying to experiment with the user-settings, and it doesn't seem to be programmable using the steps in the manual. So I'm not sure if, a) I'm just not doing it right (I spent way too long trying repeatedly, so I don't think this is the case), b) I'm not entering the right PIN (I don't think this is the case because the previous owner said it should be the factory default PIN still), or c) the alarm is just malfunctioning somehow (is it common for them to do that with age?).

I'm totally and on this issue. By the way, this is my first post in the electronics section so .

Go HERE and go to page 22 to learn how "To enter the User Selectable Features programming". Refer to the Diagram on page 24 to scroll through the options.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for your help. I tried the steps in this section the other day and then again after your post to get the problems fresh in my mind. I starting typing out the details but it may be a little confusing to communicate it all in detail.

Basically to summarize, I never get any confirmation chirps from the system with one exception. The exception is that when I exit the user-programming in step 7, I do get 3 chirps.

If I go through steps 1-3 quickly enough, the LED lights as it should. However, if I go too slowly, even with just a few seconds delay in steps 1-3, the LED doesn't work as expected. This in itself seems strange, as I would expect I would be allowed at least several seconds of lag time. I believe the manual states that after 60 seconds, it exits, but I am waiting nowhere near 60 seconds.

Even when I go very quickly and the LED does work as expected, the confirmation chirps don't sound anytime in steps 1-5.

I have tried 3 different programming features in the user-programming:

- Chirps on/off/quiet (unsuccessful at getting my chirps back using this programming feature)
- Set PIN code (I was unsuccessful at setting a new PIN code)
- Reset to default (The default is chirps=quiet. I don't get the two confirmation chirps that the manual says I should get when resetting to default.)

I don't know if it's worth mentioning, but the chirps I hear (in step 7) are the traditional alarm chirps. Whereas, the chirp that I used to hear when arming/disarming the system sound like the note of a high-pitched piano key.

I think at this point, I've exhausted my hopes of figuring it out on my own using the manual. Hopefully the alarm dealer will have the magic touch and be able to diagnose what's going on.

It's cool! I appreciate the support anyway. I might try to take it in later this week when I get my car back from the shop. If I find anything out, I'll update the thread in case anyone is curious.

Unfortunately, I still haven't had a chance to get to the city to visit the alarm place, but I do have an update. The alarm has changed its mind, and is behaving differently now. About a week ago, I tried putting it back into valet mode by hitting the Clifford button twice and then the Arm/Disarm button. Normally, when I do this, the car should flash its lights, indicating that it has switched to valet mode. But this time, it didn't do that. Suddenly, it seems that it had decided that it doesn't want to go to valet mode anymore.

I didn't know what to make of it, other than that it's an additional sign that my alarm has a gremlin.

Now the funny part. Yesterday, when I got out of my car and closed the door, I hit the Arm/Disarm button, and now it chirps again! LOL. So my original problem has fixed itself. Since that problem was fixed, I immediately wondered about the valet mode issue, so I hit the Clifford button twice and then the Arm/Disarm button. Unfortunately, no light flash. So now my original problem is solved, but I have this new problem. Hopefully the alarm store can figure out what's going on. Pretty odd.
