key problems
car keys problem
1. My son's car keys are different than mine, and we both have 04s.
2. I'm not even aware of having an alarm on mine; there's a "Panic" button, but I've never pushed it. I don't know how to engage the alarm, or turn it off.
3. On Daniel's if you reach in the car with the top down, alarm goes off? Mine doesn't do anything like that.
4. He's been having issues with the alarm going off and not being able to turn it off. No directions, but perhaps it isn't working properly since the normal things aren't working.
5. One of the keys won't open the doors now, the light comes and there is some blinking.
6. We replaced batteries when we got the car b/c the keys weren't acting right.
7. He's is afraid the other key will quit working, and if he uses the keys to get in, the alarm will go off, and he won't be able to get it off since the "remote" is not working.
8. I wonder if there is an alarm on it that's not standard. I read where there were dealer installed alarms, and I think OEM alarms??
9. I know they are programmable, so how does someone buy them online, who programs them?
10. When I did a search for "keys" I got a bunch of nothing, and another person trying to buy another key was told it was about the same money to go through Honda, $80-$100, than a store that programs keys (Ace Hardware, or locksmith).

1. When the remote, or key fob, will not open the door, and there is a light blinking, and you know the battery is good, does that simiply indicate a bad key fob, and you simply have to replace it?
2. A separate issue, would be the alarm.
3. If you try to use a key to get in, if the remote won't work, it doesn't seem like the alarm should go off? Unless, of course, you have to push a button to deactivate it first, regardless.

1. He sent me a one word text: "Working"
2. He reprogrammed the remotes with the link I sent him (the one from Wekipedia?), he had already found that one also.
3. He said he did hours of research about it.
4. Today, one of them wasn't working again; stopped by Honda after picking up a check from CarMax for his tc he sold, and they showed us where one of the fobs was bad; it would only work about 1/4 of the time; time to get a new one.
5. Honda: $180; online prices range from $25-$90; he will get a used one; I told him I would buy a $90 before I bought a $25; guys have complained online about cheap ones not working for them.
6. The alarm works fine; he couldn't get it to shut off b/c he had the bad remote/fob that wasn't working, so of course it wouldn't respond; he said it shut off by itself in 2 minutes.
7. That remote didn't work consistently the hour we bought the car, but it was the backup and wasn't being used so it got put on the back burner.
8. Daniel said his alarm is the dealer installed one (Honda must have told him), but that doesn't fit with what DW said (another site) earlier about Honda not using proximity alarms. I forgot to look under the seat for the box.
