get one with a remote start. they usually have better range than standard 2 way paging alarm systems
This is incorrect. A 2-way paging system is going to give you the maxim rage regardless to if it has remote start or not.
I'm just going by what the manufacture claims. I looked at highest model remote start from Clifford and they claim 5000 feet. their regular security alarm has a claimed range of 2000 feet. if I'm mistaken, then that is my fault

Yes but just because it has a remote start doesn't mean that the range is better. That's what I was saying was incorrect.

It's all about hiding the wiring and the alarm brain of the unit to make it look as stock as possible. You can always have the installer extend the wires and move the brain somewhere other than under the driver dash panel.

Did anyone invest in a proximity sensor, so if someone is about to cut your top it'll go off?

I have the DEI proxy sensor with my setup but having the proximity field big enough to be tripped by someone cutting your top is also going to get tripped but animals, debris blowing under the car and people just walking close to your car. I have mine set up to only go off if something moves inside the cab mainly for when I leave top down in public.

There was one that only went off in short beeps alerting people in the area if they stood by it for about 10 seconds on an s2000 by me. Is that what you mean? I'm ultra paranoid about getting my top slashed in my area when I get it, so the annoyance could be worth it. Also, does it show on the key fob on the two-way pager if the proxy sensor goes off?

Proxy sensors are a pain to set. My warn away triggers right when you get you hand next to the window but that is the only place it will pick up. I have my hard top on most all the time anyway so I never to worried about my soft top since it's always down.
