I have owned my S2K for three weeks. I have been researching the alarm systems and have become less and less sure as time goes by.
I read the horror stories about bad installs, false alarms, cheap equipment and am put off. I have read about use of the 3m connections that fail, etc.

How do I know that my local installer does a good job, isn't a 17 year old kid that's a hack and been working there for two weeks?

I do know what features I want and a few brands like Viper, Clifford and Computek.

Either I have to take the plunge and risk it or do nothing. I have a friend who works at one of the local install places too, just waiting for him to have the time to talk with me.

Still sitting on the fence. Maybe I'll just get a red LED on the dash that blinks when the E brake is on and find an alarm sticker

Did anyone invest in a proximity sensor, so if someone is about to cut your top it'll go off?
I have the DEI proxy sensor with my setup but having the proximity field big enough to be tripped by someone cutting your top is also going to get tripped but animals, debris blowing under the car and people just walking close to your car. I have mine set up to only go off if something moves inside the cab mainly for when I leave top down in public.
What about the warn off? how do you set it?

The proximity sensor has 2 dials, a trigger dial (inner zone), and a warn dial (outer zone). It take a lot of time and patience to install one of these sensors, but once you get it dialed in, it's totally worth it.

You're best bet is to post in your local sub-forum and see if anyone has had any experiences (good or bad) with any local installers. Alarms on S2000's are not extremely difficult to install if you are a somewhat experienced installer. Good Luck!

You can connect to a smart phone with the adapter for it and a yearly subscription.

I had the Clifford Avant Guard 5 in my car until a couple of month ago. After 3 years, it suddenly started going off randomly (if you were at this year's WTD, you probably heard it). I had it uninstalled and had the Escort Entourage CIS installed. No false alrms, no angry neighbors, I can see where my car is at any given time and it will text me if it moves, is bumped or tampered with.

I moved up from Phoenix 4 months ago and do 12 volt for a living. The shop I used to work for is who you want to call. They dont have anyone there with under 15 years experience and they are mobile. I did mobile alarm work for them for 7 years and they carry DEI products. Call and tell Craig that Robert in Portland told you to call and they will take care of you. ABEC # 602 881 6164

You will be glad you did. I can help you with any other questions if you have them.
