Quick question guys... Is there any audible difference between 128, 160, 192 bit rates as far as playing these kinds of MP3 files in our car?

I am in the process of digitizing all my CDs and I just want to know if I am gain anything from using 192kbps as opposed to 128kbps. I don't want to waste any space if I am not going to gain anything.

I haven't noticed any difference, 128 is fine. Unless you have a high end system and a good ear for it, you don't really notice the difference.

 

I can tell the difference, but not in my car... I find the biggest problem to be poorly ripped/encoded files, not the bit rate. That being said, I rip all of mine VBR (with a target of somewhere around 220), which my JVC SH99 handles just fine. It's a slight trade off, I can only get ~80-90 songs on a CD-R instead of 150, but seriously, CD-Rs are about $0.10 now, and RWs aren't much more, so I don't see any reason to skimp.

 

Hey all... I just got my '01 S2K on Monday and I've decided that I want to put an mp3 player in it since my entire music collection has already been ripped. Which model would you suggest, where can I get it, and will it work with the dash mounted audio controls? Any other issues I should take into consideration?
