Default MP3 Taggers?

Can anyone recommend a good MP3 Tag editor that accesses the internet to update or create tags for your MP3 files?

I know when I rip my MP3s with MusicMatch Jukebox, it will do that, but I can figure out how to make it 'fix' my downloaded MP3s.

Thanks!

hmm i searched a while back for something similiar and never found anything that worked. the problem is your downloaded mp3s don't have much identifying information other then the tag (maybe file size, but even that can change). I've been thinking about writing a perl script to add a basic tag to my MP3s that are missing them. Of course this only works for me if i have them arranged properly (right now i have them in a folder named "ArtistName" so I could use that with the filename to add a basic tag.

Let us know if you find anything that works.

on a semi-related topic, how are you handling tracker order on your mp3 cds? whenever i burn an ISO-Joliet CD it puts everything in alphabetical order (by the filename). I've worked around it by writing a perl script which renames the file with a leading number (01,02,03 etc). My perl script looks at the existing tag and uses that to rename the files. Obviously this only works for my mp3s that have good tags.... I could have avoided this if I had encoded my mp3s with the tracknumber as part of the filename, but i didn't know at the time!

Keith, with no identifying info in the downloaded MP3, you have very little hope of having an automated system identify and tag it.

mg, look around your burner software screens...you should be able to check a box that specifies putting the files in alphabetical order or the order in which they are dragged/dropped onto the burner software screen.

I'm also trying to figure this out, I have a 500 or so meg disk with no albums on it tags. It has about 67 tracks. I think I will burn a test disk (RW) and see if I can figure it out. My daughter brought home a disk I coppied that has everything in albums so the system workes, I don't know what software shee was using though and I also am using Music Match.
I have tried to use the web to identify the files I rip but got a lot of incorrect information.

Well I would think it could scan the file names, which are accurate. My problem isnt not knowing what they are on the computer, but not knowing what they are on my headunit.

I have done some research for MP3 taggers and found two great programs. If you have a large collection like I do, more than 5000 MP3s files, take a look:

1. Tag&Rename : By far the best tagger. It can even find on the internet all information about any MP3 Album that you have and Tag it (including Album Art and Album Review).

2. MoodLogic: More like a categorizer, it can classify (and Tag) your MP3 collection based on the music "footprint" of each file that is sent to their database and compared to thousands of others. You can name and tag files with absolutely no previous information!
Downside: it's a paid service.
