alpine 9835
I installed the 9835 in my04 and noticed there is no dumbed down version of the eq. I just want to adjust bass and treble without dealing w. curves, timing etc. I think tuning the damn radio is harder then the car. I have a subwoofer installed also, and to be honest the setup sounds like ass. Everything sounds ok until i try and raise the volume past 20 and everything takes a dump and it's all distortion.
Am I just missing a menu function or I think i might pull the hu.

For simplicity, just use the graphic EQ rather than the parametric. Bands 1 & 2 will be your bass and 6 & 7 the treble. Later once you get it sounding decent, and want to play with it more, I would strongly suggest playing around with the parametric & timing correction...theres lots more flexability to get it sounding nice since you can adjust the Q and the frequencies. If you get used to them, you'll never want to go back to bass and treble.
-set all EQ off... 0 bass 0 treble.. 0 gain on each frequency if its graphic
-turn your volume to about 33 or whatevers ~75/80 of max head unit volume
-turn the gain on the amplifier until the speaker just start to distort.. and back it down just a tad
-then you can fine tune the EQ to whatever suits your taste (me i leave everything flat)

I have a 9835 but it requires some clue and a good ear or a mic and computer to tune it. But if you properly tune it, its an amazing HU.

also did you turn your sub on - thought the head unit
The more I think about this, I bet your problem is your crossover settings, not the EQ. Make sure the slope on the fronts isn't set flat...it would also help if you let us know what they are currently set to (freq. and slope), and which speakers you have. I could give you some settings to try if I had an idea of the bass handling capabilities of your front speakers.
Oh...and make sure and turn off the MX setting if your head unit has it. That drastically over emphasizes the bass and treble.
