Default alpine cda 7995..any owners, please reply

Thining of switching to this HU.
My question is abiout the motorized faceplate...

Does it open/close every time you start/turn off the car? or can you simply leave it "open" ?

If it does not stay "open", i would imagine that you would have to remember to open the stereo bay door before starting or stopping, yes? or will it operate with the door closed?

And finally... do you have to keep the stereo bay door open any time the HU is in operation??? It looks to stick out a ways when it's open.

Thanks!!

I keep mine closed all the time. Even when on, it stays closed, or up, unless you press the Angle button. You don't have to remember to open the radio door everytime you turn the car on, because the face doesn't drop down unless you press the angle button. You don't have to keep the door open when the stereo is on, either.

In short, the whole "open", or angled face thing is just a gimmick for changing the angle of the face for visibility purposes, but if you're not using this angle feature, it operates like a regular detachable face head unit. BTW, you can see the face just fine when it is in its normal position.

It's a good head unit for the S2000.
