Default Alpine CDA-9856

I really want to get the Alpine CDA-9856. They are a pretty good head unit for the price and I really want to hook up my iPod to it. Will the Modifry DCI work with it. Which one do I need to purchase? The Alpine Wired DCI or IR DCI? Are there any other options besides the Modifry? Thanks..

I have the 9856, its pretty nice head unit. The display is easy to read and will not have a contrast problem blending in the background. Its a flip down face so theres no worry for motor failure. I dont have the Wired DCI or Ipod hooked up so i cant tell you hwo well that works. Only con is that its a pain in the arse to reattach the face. I just leave mine in anyways and close the radio door.

Does anyone know if it has the 3.5mm jack on the back of the unit?

I'm a little confused on which to buy even if it does work. All I really want is for the Stock Controls to work. Which setup works. The wired or IR?

The IR DCI will work. There is no input for the wired DCI on the 9856

I just completed my install of this head unit along with the IR DCI and an IPOD cable. It was a piece of cake to install, and everything works perfectly. However you have to mount the DCI's IR transmitter a bit further out because of the location of the receiver on the faceplate.
The one major problem I had was pushing the radio all the way in. I am running 5 RCA lines, along with all the DCI wiring, and ipod cable... It was tough to cram it all in there. Eventually I just pushed a 'bit' harder than I probably should have and now it all fits in nicely (some stuff is probably smashed though!).

I'll post pics in a seperate thread when my audio setup is complete, will be at least a couple weeks though. (Still designing a sub box.)

nothing235,
You should post pics of your HU now. I'd love to just see where you placed the IR DCI. I'm not planning on hooking up a big stereo system or anything. I might just change out the stock speakers and thats about it. You should hook a brotha up with some pics.

I'll take and post them when I get home in a few hours. (Assuming my camera is charged! :-P ) However, the IR transmitter isn't painted because the paint got scraped off when pushing it through the hole... you'll see :-P
