Just a quick qeustion, why do u guys have to drill a hole for the IR?

the IR that i see in the pics, is that from the DCI? do u need to mount it near the head unit? Wouldn't it be better if u just put it inside the air vents above the head unit??

Also, is the MODIFRY DCI or DJ QUBE DCI better?

inside the air vents won't work. there is no direct line of sight to the head unit from there, and you'd need to drill into the air duct to get it there anyway. With Modifry's dci no drilling is necessary (at least for the Alpine 9856) ... there is a very small gap all around the head unit, not noticeable to the eye, but easy to snake a wire through. The Modifry v2 dci uses a very, very small IR transmitter so you can just leave it sticking out a bit, next to the IR eye on the receiver. On the 9856 it is on the right side of the unit. I have a 9856 with Modifry's v2 dci, and this is the way I have mine installed.
