ALPINE CDA-9856 with IPOD INTERFACE
OK, so I had my Alpine CDA-9856 installed yesterday with (get this....) two different IPOD INTERFACE.
Why???
Because I like having the options of controlling my playlist through the headunit (Full Speed Ipod Interface KCE-4221) as well as the option of controlling my songs through the IPOD itself (had an additional aux input installed).
You might say... Indecision? Nope! Greedy? Maybe Stupid? Watch It!
Anyhow, the Full Speed Ipod Interface definitely works despite of having to scroll down to check the name of the freakin' song. However, when I disconnect the Ipod and try the other aux, it doesn''t freakin' work. I tried pretty much everything (I think) including reading the manual. The question is whether or not I understood the manual's instructions, that's purely debatable.
So...this is where you guys come in. You can either tell me the following:
1) The set up of having two different IPOD interface does not work for this particular headunit
2) The installer didn't install the additional aux properly, hence, the unit is not recognizing my IPOD
3) I'm just a freakin' moron (which I would accept, provided you help me out on this)
I'd like to find out the answer from this forum first before I end up taking it back to my installer. It is just not convenient for me because of work, plus it'll take away some of my time I spend on the internet.
FYI, my entire set up as follows:
HU = Alpine CDA-9856
SP = Infinity Kappa (front only)
AM = Alpine MRV-F345
Steering Wheel Interface = tried PAC (complete sewer material), then had Peripheral installed (truly an 18th century technology) Now, waiting for DCI module which I should have installed in the first place and should have not listened to my installer
No SUB
Ok...fire away with your unquestionable I.Q.s. Of course, I thank you from the bottom of my pitch black soul

aux takes in analog signal... thus theres no "recognizing" of anything. i bet i know what the problem is: AUX in is OFF by default in the settings.
Click MENU, go to SETUP, and make sure aux input is set to ON

You're almost right, Smurf2K. I did turn-on the AUX already, but that was not the entire problem. After re-reading the manual, I tried to go back to set-up again and then figure out that I had to assign a name to that particular AUX i.e. tv, vcr, game. It did the trick when I named it "tv." Now, the only problem is that the sound coming directly from this AUX connection is unacceptable. And I think I know the problem. It's because the IPOD is connected directing from the "mic" output instead of it's docking station. This is my own freakin' fault for not doing my homework.
Anyhow, Duff is going to help me out as soon as I get the DCI.
Thanks for the responses guys

yeah, the little mini out is amplified both by the ipod and then by the car's system...
you can get a dataplug for the ipod that will terminate out into a pair of RCA jacks and use that to go to AUX...should be no more than 30$
if you decide to use it in its current state leave volume at about 80%... thatll maximize SNR .. before it starts to distort
