Default Alpine DVA-9965

i was just looking for new stuff from alpine and i saw that they had the DVA-9965. I went looking on the net and found it at crutchfield for 1499$. I know that this unit plays DVDs and all, but i really think that this is not worth the money. I mean, it's the same as the 9855 except that it has a color screen, dvd playback and HD radio capability (wow.. pretty useless since we all have xm or sirius).

I really want to get one just for the DVD playback capabilities so that i don't have to add more stuff to my trunk (extra dvd player) but with the price that they're setting, i don't think i'll be getting one of these for a long long time.

What do you guys think about the 1500$ price tag on the DVA-9965.

Dave

That unit is not released yet and the only people I see listing it are Crutchfield at 1499 and Savinglots.com at $1150. Seems awfully steep especially since there is no video display.

I have no idea why it would be so high or what may be so special about it. Nothing clues me in from the Crutchfield site. HD radio is kind of cool but I am not sure if any or many are broadcasting it yet. Maybe darkknight knows since he is familar with the high end of the Alpine line.

BTW, we all have XM or Sirius? I doubt that. I would imagine more don't than do but maybe I am just a late adopter.

The only significant feature of this unit I can see that puts it above most other head units is that it plays MP3's on DVD media, whereas other DVD capable head units only play DVD video discs and MP3's on CD media.

Not true. The JVC "giga-mp3" capable HU's have this same ability. And they are under $500. And one even has a built-in 3" color screen in case you did want video capability.

So how's the quality of that JVC unit? And is there a Modifry adapter that will work with this head unit? I just got a '06 s2000 and am looking to change the head unit first. So far haven't been able to make up my mind as to which one i should get.

It's also ugly as f*ck and made by JVC. You might as well buy Kraco.

Anyhow, I said "most other head units," not "all other head units."

Despite what the esteemed Helios believes, its a good HU and have the cost of the alpine that isnt even available yet.

Modifry does make an adapter for it.
