I still use CD's sometimes.

Just doesn't make sense for something to cost this much when it just passes through a signal basically.

I thought all the mechanics involved in the CD system is what made these pricey (laser, pickup, spin motor, etc).

Generally, Alpine HU's are more expensive anyway...I'm not sure how much this HU would cost them to build when compared to their CD HU's...but the new USB connection to the iPod might have something to do with it...I believe it's supposed to be faster than the direct connect cables they have now.

Here's some interestng reviews on this unit. Personally I'll be sticking with my 9835 because of the tuning I can do with it. But this is a nice unit.

Have a read: http://www.engadget.com/2007/01/08/alpines...iced-and-dated/

Hmmm...thought I wanted it, but Im not so sure Im willing to give up CDs....dont use it often, but I do use it.
Also, I do not like NON-rotating knobs....

I will need to play with one to be sure. The website says April, but the engadget says February....Did Alpine go back to the drawing board last minute?

The first time I saw the iDA on the Alpine website (while CES was still happening, I think), it indicated February availability. But the next week it had changed to April.

Considering that they've been over a year late on certain products, I'd consider April a little speculative. Not to say it's not a nice unit...if it had been out when I purchased my 9857, I'd have been inclined to go with the iDA instead.

I hate my 9857 because I cant get the Radio to sound good, would have dumped the CD for that!

WOW cool! I think I am missing something though. This can't just play iPod.... If it had a CD player and radio, it would sell like the iPhone. iAlpine anyone
actually... you can buy the bluetooth adapter/add-on (retail $200) and use the phone with your headunit/speakers... and buy the USB add-on to hook up a external cd drive and use that as a CD player...

so essentially you CAN get it to be an iApline... but will have to fork over a LOT more $$$ hehehe

sweet HU though
