Default Alpine iPod connector

I'll save my stereo install frustrations for another thread, as I'm about to drive my car off a cliff but....

I tested the headunit and everything works fine, but when I hook up the iPod connector to my Alpine CDA-9885, the screen just says "Searching..." and stays there. I have an older generation iPod (4th, I think with the 15GB HD and non-color screen). Is that compatible with the headunit, or do I need a 5th gen or above?

Thanks!

If you're using the full-speed cable, you need a 5th gen or newer iPod. If you're using an older iPod, you need to use Alpine's slower, older, ai link or whatever it was called.

Thank you very much. I searched Crutchfield's website, but couldn't find any definitive information about the cable. Thanks for checking!!

Now I have to find out if my iPod will work if upgraded.
