Alpine ktp-445
I have an Alpine head unit and S series speakers in the doors. I was thinking about adding this little power booster. Does anyone have any experience with this? It says its basically plug and play, does that mean I won't need to be buying anything additional?
I just bought one. I have the Alpine iDA-x303 HU and Alpine SPS-600C speakers on it. It was definitely plug and play. You have to remove your HU from the car, but once you do, you simply unplug the harness in the back of the HU, plug in the matching harness from the KTP amp, then plug the remaining harness (it will have a fuse harness with it) into the harness that was running to your HU and then you are done. It's so easy, there weren't even instructions in the package, just a diagram showing you the plug and play feature of it.
The KTP amp is big, so you will have very limited space to hide it. I chose to put it in my passenger side cargo net, right by the console. I wrapped the wires in some black cloth (my interior is black) and did what I could to hide it. You won't see if from the drivers side and you will only see it from the passenger side if you look down into that area.
I havn't had a chance to really crank it up, but from the test I did, it made a world of difference. I already thought the system was good, but I was looking for a little bit more, especially since the speakers are rated 80w rms (240 peak) but the HU is only 16w rms (50 peak). The KTP amp allows up to 45w rms so it lets you get more use out of your speakers.
So far so good and still clear at higher volumes, which is great for when you are cruising with the top down. Crutchfield has it online for $120. You can get it at Best Buy for the same price, $120, as that is where I got mine last night (kind of a spur of the moment thing - I had read good stuff about it and wanted a little bit more oomph out of my speakers without going through the whole amp and wiring process).
I recommend it so far.

It will 'amp' your HU power, so in a sense, yes. The increase is not overly large, like a higher end amp would do, but it does increase a good 30-50% over what your current HU does (depending on the HU of course). On Alpine HU's, they state the increase is 150%, going from ~18WRMS to nearly 45WRMS.
I installed it alongside my Alpine HU and speakers and can definitely notice the difference. I don't have to pump the volume as high with the top down to hear the music clearly.

I'm running the power pack with my CDA-117, I agree with the others...it does a great job of boosting power with the hassle of a "true" amp...I mounted mine on the driver's side of the center tunnel, way up by the gas pedal...its very concealed and doesn't interfere with your feet (and I wear size 11)...you'll just need a dremel w/ right-angle attachment to drill the holes...

I installed mine under the dash on the driver's side, above the knee. I'm glad I made the purchase. I never realized how underpowered my head unit was until I installed power pack.
I think im like the ONLY person to have had a bad experience with this amp. I am running JL Audio TR650-CSi 6.5 components and an IDA Alpine headunit. It already sounds REALLY good. The speakers are efficient and I knew I was going to run a low power IDA Alpine so being these are recommended to be ran at 10-75watts I thought I would get some more loudness out of the KTP system.
Much to my amazement it sounds JUST the same with the exception of louder highs from the tweeters and slightly less distortion on louder levels. Im thinking that I may just get another set of these speakers and put them somewhere else in the cabin any recommendations?
Does the IDA system crank out as much power as it can to two speakers and then lose power once you install two more speakers?

^^Alpine boasts a 150% increase using Alpine HU's and speakers. I did notice a difference, enough to not to have to crank the system as high as I previously did to hear my music clearly with the top down.
Not sure the iDA HU will have enough power to push through to four speakers. You would have to splice the wires as well. You would be better off getting a full amp and adding another set of speakers.
