Default ALPINE SPX-17PRO

I'm starting the upgrade of my sound system. Does any S owner have these speakers?

I don't know if the tweeter will fit or if there's a way to get them to fit.

I don't know much about sound systems so if you give me instructions here my friend will help me by reading your technical instructions. He's done two sound systems already, he just doesn't know the specs of my car so any input would be wonderful.

Thanks again!

You will need spacers/cut the basket/remove the water covers but they should go in ok.

Have a search as there's plenty of how-tos and pics.

They fit fine. I have had SPX-177a's in the doors. I just cut the back of the stock speaker baskets out. 5 minutes each side with a dremel. piece of cake.

The Alpine SPX-17PRO should fit... I suggest that you should also look at the Hybrid Audio Technologies Imagine or Clarus series as well.

You can get BETTER speakers for a Cheaper Price ! These don't have a very good mid bass output, save or money & go with the S series if you have to have Alpine .

On what basis do you say that? Got any frequency response graphs?

My old SPX-177R sound better than any S-series I've heard, right across the frequency spectrum.

Alpine SPX-17PRO is the top model from Alpine, which means its a lot better than the Type-S series

COMPONENT SYSTEMS: the type X is the most clear speakers (top speakers in alpine series), both high to low frequencies. audio distortion is very minimal. Great with uncompressed audio or CD quality (320kbps MP3s and up) you can really tell the difference if its low quality mp3s. that's how clear these speakers are. the type R will give you more bass while losing some higher frequencies. audio clarity is lost with the over powering bass. the type S are good for oem replacements... better audio quality for a cheap price. The type X are physically a bit bigger then the R series due to the better coils and magnets... yes they will fit in the S, but as mentioned above, modification to the OEM spacer/basket is required.

as an audio-file and installer of audio equipment, I actually tested all 3 speakers in a custom box for the 6.5" component speakers. All with the same head unit and no amplifier. Type X was the best and expensive of the 3. Keep in mind, this was played in a quiet garage. When driving, you will not notice clarity.. Also if you have alot of cabin noise/top down... high end speakers will not make that much of a difference (it's not like you use your car as your boombox from your room.)

Edit: I don't mean to discourage you from getting them. They are great speakers. Just wanted to give you my 2cents as an S2K owner.

Also the original question is about the tweeter mounting. I am also considering a Type X component set (the REFs) and I want a stock appearance and am willing to use the coax tweeter mount if the tweeters will not fit in the factory locations.

edit - so...i am also interested in the answer to this question.

i have the type r's amp'd by an alpine pdx. i listened between these and the S version and these definetly have more bass. you can pump alot of watts through them. im running 100 watts through each and they sound amazing. good bass and midrange and the highs are plenty loud for me.
