I talked to the focal reps, their cross over cannot be bi-amped. Only bridged and turn the gain down.

The alpine type-x can be bi-amped according to alpine reps.

I asked one of my buddies who is in the audio scene. I think he has a diamond, phoenix and ads system in his car. He told me to go with the focals and run it bridged since we cant bi-amp...

Also figured out that my JL W3 SUB is only taking 300 rms while using my pdx 1.600 i have to turn the gain down cause its too much power for the sub.

any input guys?

 

yea you'll have to turn the gains down... or you can get the 2.150 and bridge it to match perfectly.

 

Keep is simple. One amp and three speakers. Keep in mind that you're in a convertable that makes a butt load of road noise so crystal clarity isn't that much of an issue. The set-up you chose should sound perfectly fine in our cars. Besides, you're using a iPod. MP3's are not hi-fidelity.

IMO; Its better to have more power than less. Speakers more often than not blow from being underpowered than overpowered. Underpowering can cause distortion which heats up and burns the voice coil(s) within seconds. Overpowering the system allows you to minimise the use of the amp's gains hence reducing engine noise, speaker hiss, amp heat, etc. Having said that; I'm not saying to go out any buy a 1000rms 2 channel amp to run your 150rms front stage; prob something with 200rms per channel.

The Alpine type X splits have an awesome mid range bass, but if its clarity, clean crisp sound you're after, go the Focals.......amazing clarity, however with a soft top.....you're not gonna fully realise the Focal's potential (extra $$$). Mind you though; if you love the Focals, then go the Focals, you're gonna be the one thats listening to them.

I do love the focal, but problem is i havent heard the ALPINE type-x. No one seems to have them in their shops here in Atlanta. Since i havent heard the alpine type x i dont know what i`ll be missing. I wish there was a way i can listen to both of them before buying. Since i heard the focal i`ll probably go that way, alpine would probably save me money.
