Default Alpine UTE-73BT

Was poking around on Crutchfield and saw that this receiver just came out. I own the UTE-62BT and am happy with it, but am surprised to see this model come in at $99. Anyone biting?

It only has a 3 band EQ so I'd spend a little more to get finer grained adjustments.

I just received a UTE-62BT and was about to install it replacing my old Alpine. However, after your post, I ordered a 73 from Amazon. Will update...

I just installed this headunit last night. So far, so good. Has some preset EQs. Not as many features as my previous >2 year old Kenwood, but for the price, seems like a good value. As far as quality goes, the display is nice and the headunit isn't too flashy.
The volume knob could be a little more premium, but for the price I don't think you can expect much.
As far as built in amp goes, didn't seem to make much (if any) of an improvement over OEM radio, which was disappointing.
Works perfect with Modifry DCI.

Guess it's time to add an external amp. Thinking of going with the alpine power pack.

I have the UTE 62BT and I just installed the Alpine KTP-445U under the passenger side dash and it works very well. I chose the "U" (universal) instead of the "A" because it permitted me to bridge the four speaker outputs to two generating about 90 Watts to each door. I am very happy with it.

Great. I plan on doing the same. Did you upgrade the door speakers? If so, which did you go with?

Do you still have the OEM speakers? If so, I doubt you're going to be happy with just adding more power - you're almost certainly going to upgrade the speakers so why not do that first and see if you really need the external amp? If you choose a pair with above average efficiency, you may find you don't need it.

Not yet. I have OEM speakers in my 02. The thing is they sound quite good, especially after adding the amp.
I suspect someday I will add new speakers to the mix. But, its honestly not necessary if they are in good shape. The amp is the big thing. You get a cleaner signal to the speakers with an amp, and it makes a big difference in the overall sound because you don't over run the amp when you need decent volume with the top down. The other thing is the quality of the source - that is a big factor in the sound quality that sometimes makes you think its the speakers when really it is the low quality source.
