Alternative location for a headunit
Would some of the experts out there want to volonteer an opinion?
I would like to free up the current space taken up by the headunit for gauges (tyre pressure, oil pressure & temperature, water temperature)! I have been looking for alternative locations but this car is cramped as hell.
I'm considering an indash installation like the one you see for the navigation system in Japan (or one that one of our fellow members used, I think it was Shaner...), but would really prefer a stealthier install. Any suggestions?
Alternatively, you can help me with some suitable locations for the gauges

Personally, I would prefer the guages in the dash instead of the head unit...you want to see them, so put them higher then the stock stereo location. You might try placing the stereo in the glovebox, or maybe even go higher (if you don't care about seeing the face) and place it in the secret compartment. I'd suggest placing it in the tunnel under your right arm, but I don't think there's nearly enough depth under there.
Luis,
I see no problem mounting in the glove box... you could either mount it right in the door or fabricate a face to the well and mount it in that face. Plus, If you did need more depth, you could always go through the rear of it a bit...

I was thinking....under seat in a little enclosure. In the secret compartment(slight modifications). See if you can get a radio that either has a option to mount a separate reciever eye for the radio(so you can use the full functions of your remote) Or modify the radio internally to make it have a reciever eye that can be put elsewhere.
Key word being you have to MODIFY!
You could always put something down under the passenger dashboard. Put a piece of plexi glass over the front to keep it safe and if its tinted it will only be seen when its lit up!
Let us know what you come up with.
