You didn't run the RCA's next to the power wire, did you? Those should be as far apart as possible, at least 1/2 the width of the car (RCA's down center console, and power down passenger side, etc.).

John
No sir, I noted in the parent post that the Rca's are running down the pass side, and power down driver side to eliminate that prob. My ipod runs through my center console

FYI,if your running amps for your door spks, you did it correct. Now Amp and "sub" installs can be run together(to low of a freq. to pickup any radiated noise). I would relocate your ground and keep it less than 2'(about 18" or less is good). Noise filters help by eliminating V'ts going to the amp making it not as loud as it was before.

Would it be wise to drill another hole? Or just use another factory ground? somewhere on the pass side of the car?

If you use any factory ground/bolt, make sure it doent have the gooey stuff on it(kinda like loc-tite) you will not get a good ground. Its best if you have a DMM to test for a good ground, if you dont have one, dont worry. Use a self taping screw instead of drilling a hole for your ground, then using a screw after. let me know how it goes.

Is the hum from the driver's side only, or both equally? Try using your fader/balance to see if you can isolate it (might be a troubled connection to only 1 speaker). Also, if you are amping the doors (assuming you are), make sure the signal/speaker wires are no where near the power wire, even on the driver's side. I had mine run a little too close to my capacitor, and I had some nasty whine for a while.

Also, are you absolutely positive that it is alternator hum? Alternator noise is often described more as a whine than a hum. It should also vary in pitch according to engine speed. You might also want to see if you can anchor it to the spare tire anchor (would have to get a new bolt, but that sure as sh!t should be grounded really well... I would avoid tapping any additional holes. Check around that area, I want to say that there is at least 1 additional decent grounding point around there....

Bingo. Avoid making additional holes whenever possible .

Geez Brian... way to mess it up

Did you have it before the car was fixed?

I would check to make sure your battery connections are secure I had a whine on mine after a trip to the body shop. Of course they unhooked the battery... Corrected the path of the wires and tightened everything back up... all was good.

Also dont use the factory HU ground, it is poo. It will let ingnition noise into the system thru the turn on lead. Find a better source for it.

This brings up an interesting question. Would anybody be interested in Fiber Optic RCA cables?

For those who don't know, optics are immune to EMI.
