AMP Configuration question
Hey folks,
I posted a thread or two recently when I upgraded my system from oem. Still a total newb to this stuff. To keep this simple heres my dilemna. I have an Alpine PDX-2.150, turns out I need 2 more channels. heres my options:
Just flat out buy a PDX-4.150 and call it good. About a $100 more.
or
Buy another PDX-2.150 and distributor and stack them. If I do this, then I have a couple more questions. I've got 4 gauge power going to the existing PDX. Alpine recommends 4 gauge to these Amps.
Can I keep the existing 4 gauge into the distributor, split it, and have 2-4 guage coming out to each amp?
Or can I get away with 4 gauge coming into the distibutor and 8 gauge coming out to each amp?
Thanks for all the help, and the great information in this forum

if you split the 4 gauge into two 4 gauges it's the same princeable as splitting it into 2 8 gauges.... I would just go for the new amp.... or put like a cap or Kinetic battery somewhere in the car and just run 2 4 gauges from there.... but the overall cheaper solution is probably just go with the 150.4
from a cost, space, and ease of install standpoint, seems like the 4.150
is a better choice than two 2.150s. if you do go with two amps, 4-ga is
fine for the run to the trunk for both amps, and 8-ga is fine for feeding
each amp from the distribution block, as of course would 4-ga (there's
no such thing as too big a wire as long as it fits).

Thanks for the feedback guys. Stacking them really isnt a problem, you just screw one on top of the other and hook them up. Obviously the PDX-4.150 would look a little cleaner, but nobody see's them in the spare tire compartment. Either way is pretty simple, but one costs about $100 less, and then I have to go through the hassle of trying to sell the PDX-2.150 which I just had in the For Sale section last week and nobody wanted it.
