Amp Install
Hi All, i am going to take the plunge and install an amp with my stock HU. I am currently running stock fronts, and lucid style rears. i will get a 4 channel amp to run both fronts and rears. i just don't want to go to the trouble of replacing the HU as then i have to go the DCI route and i already have the Dension Ice Link attached.
i have done plenty of HU and speaker installs in the past but never taken on an amp.
can someone point me in the right direction to a thread or site on this install or give me a bit of direction? i have tried the search!!!
i was thinking of installing in boot on top of the tool compartment.
Thanks.
Chris.

You don't even need to use the search, just read the giant FAQ on the top of the Electronics page and you'll find links to this page: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=248785
Fwiw, I mounted mine on a piece of wood and bolted that onto the rear bulkhead of my trunk.

you will need to either get an amp with speaker level inputs, or convert the speaker inputs into RCA's. It would almost be easier to just get a new HU with the Modifry DCI. Dension, I believe, makes an Ice Link for a lot of aftermarket brands as well.
Some SQ will be lost in the speaker level ---> RCA conversion.
I know its the more expensive way to go, but, IMHO, its worth it. Installing the HU and DCI is easy......as long as you are not color blind.

I just did this. You have to get a Line Level Converter. There's one on Crutchfield.com and can give you an idea of what it is. I also heard the cruthfield on is pretty good. the LLC will have RCA outputs that you run RCA cables to your amp. From the amp, it's just running the speaker wires to your speakers. I put my small 2 channel amp under my seat, it fits perfectly. There's a write up from darkknight guy that tells you how to wire up the power and stuff. The hardest part for me was running the speaker wires, took the longest time.

The PAC OEM-2 is the way to go, the circuitry does eliminate noise. It has adjustable levels and can be mounted next to the head unit. I prefer this setup to the one where you have to run the speaker lines to the amp.
I am happy with the product and I think it is better than the one Crutchfield has because it is a two channel for about $30 so you have to buy two.
The PAC OEM-2 can be purchased new for about $30-35. I have also seen a couple on E-Bay for half that price.
What I like about this alternative is I can always upgrade and I am only out $35.
Not $280 plut $90 for headunit and DCI, which I might not like.
