Default Amp Questions

I tried the search and it came back with no matches and I don't recall seeing any opinions on Extant equipment. I'm looking at the X 603e to run either Focal 165KP or Diamond S600 and a 10" sub. Seems a little under powered for the Diamonds but any input on power and quality are welcome.

Don't run the Diamonds off that. They are too power hungry for 75W per channel. It's probably doable with the Focals though.

I've never used Xtant myself. I know one of the local high end shows premiers them, so they can't be that bad. I remember they didn't use to have a fully regulated power supply, but it seems that they do now. If the price/size/features are right you probably have nothing to worry about.

Actually I was at a small shop in Kirkland that an installer works at that does nice detail oriented work. Would you think that Audison would be a better choice for amp?

First, you probably didn't find anything because it's spelled Xtant, not Extant. Not ragging on ya, just sayin....

I've had a couple Xtant amps before, and they kick ass! I ran a set of Alpine Type-X components off of a 403X and it was amazing, then I ran a pair of Xtant 12s off of an old X1001 and it was just as amazing. They are perfectly clear amps, very highly regarded in the SQ (Sound Quality) circles, but they have enough punch to stay with more bass-oriented music.

Honestly the older Xtant amps are way better, the guy that used to make them (by hand) is the one who designed the new JL amps (not my fav, but not his fault, design is awesome). In a newer Xtant you're losing some of that show-winning quality, but they're still in the top 5 amps for SQ.

I'm curious what shop you're going to.

I'm going to have Benchmark Motoring do a majority of mine (what I don't want to do myself). They (well.. Innovative Audio) did a top notch job on my Z.

If it was my money, I would get Audison over Xtant, but both are good.

The shop is Signature Motor Design on 6th St. S. Scott Moore is the installer there. He has been in the business for 20 years. Innovative was good. I sent many clients there who were very happy with the results. I unfortunately am personally not a Scott Whitehead fan. I am not inclined to go to Benchmark.

I would consider the Audison also. Which one would be recommended for a single amp install the SRx 3 or the LRx 5.600?

I've never used Audison but I checked out their web site. It seems like their power ratings on their 3 or 4 channel amps are really low short of the VRX 4.300.2.

I wouldn't run the Diamonds with either of those power ratings, not sure about the Focals.

Sounds like an interesting story about Innovative/Benchmark. I don't know who this Scott Whitehead guy is (...what a name.)
