Audio Component Selection for the Non-Audiophile
I'll just say right off the bat that I know almost nothing about car stereos, other than that I want mine to sound decent. I have a stock MY2000 that just sucks, and I just bought Sirius Satellite Radio, that I would like installed.
I'm looking for suggestions as to what components to use, and please keep in mind that I am NOT an audio critic, and don't care about eliminating every last bit of distortion. I just want to be able to listen to music at a reasonable volume.
Questions:
1) Do I need to replace the head unit, speakers, and put in an amp? Could I just put in an amp and change the speakers... or find a head unit that puts out a strong enough signal... do the speakers have to be changed... etc?
2) If I do have to change my head unit, are there any out there that would allow me to use the stock dash audio controls?
3) I have a Sirius S50 docking station that I would like installed. Is it a fair assumption that I can go from the Line-out in the cradle to the back of head unit (the antenna, maybe)? I don't like using the FM modulator.... I feel like I can't drive more than 10 miles before the channel I'm on finds some broadcast that screws me up.
I appreciate any help you guys can give to a total audio noob.
Thanks.
