Another Amazed Lucid Customer
Last Monday I fedexed my panels behind the seats to lucid and today I received the panels back, supplemented by Polk EX402a speakers and an excellent set of instructions.
I installed the panels in 20 minutes on my lunch break and ran the wires in the evening. The connections to the stereo head took me a little while since I had to rewire my fronts as well, but that is another thread.
Anyway, the sound improvement is absolutely amazing, fantastic, impressive, wonderful, and superb. I think my audio iquest is finished for a while. Maybe I'll add some kind of subwoofer someday and maybe not.
My full system in order of installation is: Kenwood eXcelon xr600 front speakers, Alpine CDA-7876 60 watt x 4 (27 watts rms x 4) head, 16 gauge Rockford Fosgate speaker cables for the front, Polk ex402a speakers in the back with lucid's installation.
My wife and I went cruising the interstate for a while this evening to enjoy and test out the system at 80 mph. With four channels driven instead of two channels driven, I put the volume control on the head to 20-21 out of 35. Before I was running at 30-35 out of 35. Now the sound is much more distinct. The "surround" feel with the rears working is wonderful. Although it doesn't make much sense, I think I get better bass too, even though adding a couple 4 inch speakers shouldn't help the bass.
Some of the members on the board might remember the FIRST Bose speakers in the mid 1960's. Each speaker of the matched pair consisted of nine reasonably small drivers in a pentagonal enclosure with one speaker facing forward and eight facing back. The heart of the thing was a fancy cross-over network. Consumers Reports tested speakers in an anechoic chamber and said the original Bose speakers were terrible, but lots and lots of audiophiles and reviewers called them wonderful.
I think that somehow adding these two relatively small drivers behind the seats does something synergistically to the whole system. It might not look pretty in an anechoic chamber, but it is wonderful driving down the highway.
Good job lucid. This is one of the finest owner-designed improvements I know of. Thank you very, very much.

Lucid's price to me including the Polk 402A speakers was $182.00. This included the speakers installed in my rear panels, a plug-in wiring harness, photographic quality instruction sheets and his shipping costs.
My extra costs included FEDEX charges to get this done in a Wednesday to Friday time frame, (an extra $50.00). If you can accept normal shipping, then your total cost should be around $182.
This mod is awesome and lucid's finished panels appear factory in every way. And if I can install them, then anyone can, trust me
