antena repalcement or improvement?
the stock stubby 4-6 inch is a real dissapointment...anyone care to share what they have done about it? installed a power antena? bought a new fixed antena? details, experience, and or advice would be appreciated(photos also help)...i am thinking have someone install a power antena...but i don't want to have anyone touch my head unit as i have removed the door assembly once and know it will not go back in twice as a solid fit!
These are the best antennas to upgrade to!
If you seriously have issues with the quality of FM/AM radio, consider satellite. I just recently added this to my system and couldn't be happier. Near CD quality, commercial free, and more channels than you can shake a stick at. Music, talk, sports, comedy... the list goes on.

BTW, if you are considering satellite radio and want good stuff at a good price, here's what I did.
Step 1 - www.bestbuy.com - $50

I agree, Sirus/XM rocks! I might get it w/ the new "XM-ready" HU coming in.
Wonder how long Sirus/XM will remain commercial free. I've seen this scenario before. My guess is at least a few more years of no commercials to help build the customer base, then they'll send out a notice about a change in service. Maybe only a few channels will have commercials at first -- so on and so forth.
I'm a pessimist long-term on this one. But for now, hard to beat the selection and sound quality.

so....no one has installed a power antena that works when the radio is on(goes up and down switched to radio)
my hope was that someone had done this and was able to patch into the existing antena cable so i would not have to remove my head unit again.

The most important decision satellite radio is programming.
XM has it all over Sirius for music. Much deeper playlists, more music channels. Sirius has more talk and far more play by play sports, if that's your thing. The music is also alot more repetitive and "hits"-based.
I'm heavily biased toward XM, but I'm also a chocolate fan. If you prefer vanilla, hey, that's America.
However, a word of caution about that Sirius monthly rate. It is *not* "about $10 a month." The deal is, you prepay for a year, up front, at $12.95 a month, and they give you, at the end of that year, 3 free months, so it works out to $10.52 for fifteen months.
But then -- you go back to $12.95 a month.
XM billing is far more honest. It's $9.99 a month, no gimmicks. By default they bill you quarterly, but you can prepay for longer periods of time and get a discount:

But here's the coolest thing --
If you've pre-paid and want to cancel, XM will give you a pro-rated refund. Sirius will give you a penalty.

You're not going to get MUCH better signal out of any power antenna or amplifiers. The power antenna will just get you bad looks and the amplifier will do its job in amplifying garbage. You wanted better quality, we offered you a solution. No thanks needed...
