Default Any way to check if a headunit works?

I'm about to pick up an Alpine CDA-9887 tomorrow from Craigslist. Is there any way to check if it works without plugging it into a car? I wanna see if it at least power on.

...or am I outta luck and just have to hope I dont get ****ed. The only reason I ask is because I got a helluva deal on it.

Sure. Power it up, pop in a CD, hook up at least one speaker, and go.

You can do as Stealth suggested, or if you can get your hands on a DC power adapter or supply you can always set it to 12V and just follow the positive, negative and ground method.

A simple way to do this is to obtain either a cable with spring loaded clips to clip on to a battery (BE SURE TO HAVE A FUSE ON IT) or use a 12V lighter plug pigtail assembly with a fuse built in. You do sort of need to know what you are doing. Just the fact that you are asking this makes me a little uncomfortable as the answer to your question is rather obvious if you are car stereo literate.

I'm a car stero illiterate lol. I already bought it. Dude works for the pentagon, and was wearing a military uniform when we were exchanging so I don't think he sold me a crappy unit.

The CDA-9887 is sexy! I finally finished my sound system setup!!
