for FM, head units are usually optimized for either sound quality OR
sensitivity, with better quality units going for the former, while
factory ones usually try to have the longest range. So yes, you
can get a meaningful improvement in FM sound quality, but you'll
lose weak stations much sooner. Some headunits allow you to
make the choice yourself with a "DX" switch.
