Suggestions for stock speaker replacement
My stock speakers in my 2001 AP1 are all distorted now, most likely due to age, so I'm looking for some decent replacements. Nothing crazy but something that sounds close to what the stock speakers sounded like if not slightly better. Heck if someone had some stock speakers that are still in pretty good condition that they don't want I'll even take those. I'm no audiophile and am just looking for something to replace the stockers. No upgrading to components nor adding any amps. And I'm still running the stock head unit...
Suggestions? If I am going to buy new, looking to spend no more than $100.
Thanks!

That was actually the first place I looked. And there were ALOT of good suggestions in there, but mainly they were for Amp + head unit + speaker setups. I found a few suggestions for JUST speakers, and from what I saw people were recommending the Alpine Type-R or Focal speakers, but those are a little above my budget. That's why I thought I'd hit up the locals to see if anyone else had any input.

for your budget, you're in the territory of alpine type-S... they are decent and an improvement over the oem's...
i was in the same boat about a year ago...
at first, i just wanted to upgrade the speakers... so i bought alpine type-R component speakers with the crossovers, purchased from amazon...
satisfaction didn't last long, so i bought an alpine HU shortly afterwards... then amp... then sub...

For the money, I've found Kicker DS6.2's to be the best. That's what I have currently. With the right settings on your head unit, they sound amazing. So crisp and clear. Even at freeway speeds with the top down, it sounds like you're listening to headphones. I've had tons of compliments on them.
